Why locksmiths have no software of their own
Search any other trade we cover and vertical specialists dominate the results. Search locksmith software and you get Workiz, OctopusPro, FieldPulse, Housecall Pro and a Jobber advert. There is no locksmith equivalent of Skimmer or AccuLynx. The reason is structural, and it is worth understanding before you buy.
The work does not repeat
Pool routes and pest contracts are recurring: the same properties on a schedule, which is what a vertical product optimises. Locksmith work is overwhelmingly one-off and unplanned — a lockout at 11pm, a rekey after a tenant leaves. There is no route to optimise, so the specialist advantage never materialised and the generalists were good enough.
What a locksmith actually needs that a plumber does not
Three things. Inbound call handling, because the job starts with a phone ringing and the nearest van wins. Dispatch by proximity rather than by schedule. And parts inventory in the van — cylinders, blanks, transponders — which most general platforms treat as an afterthought.

Workiz: the right features, no price
Workiz scores 6.8 out of 10. It is the first organic result for this term and the only platform here whose feature set was clearly shaped by trades that live on the phone — locksmiths, garage doors, junk removal. What it will not do is tell you what any of it costs.
Why it fits locksmith work
The phone system is inside the product rather than bolted on. Calls are tracked, recorded and attached to jobs, so the lockout that came in at 11pm has its own record and the dispatcher can see which van is nearest. For a business where the job begins with a ringing phone and ends ninety minutes later, that is the workflow, not a feature.
Three tiers, three “Request pricing” buttons
Standard, Pro and Ultimate. Every one of them replaces the price with a “Request pricing” button. There is no starting figure, no per-user rate and no range anywhere on the page — a page whose own headline reads “Finally, a field service software that’s easy, powerful & fairly priced”.
We take four out of ten on price for that, the same as FieldPulse, PestPac and AccuLynx, and for the same reason set out on our scoring page. A buyer comparing options on a Sunday evening cannot compare a product that requires a sales call to produce a number. Workiz would likely score around 8 if it published; the gap between 6.8 and that is entirely self-inflicted.
OctopusPro: the opposite approach
OctopusPro scores 7.0 out of 10 and publishes more pricing detail than anything else in this comparison — three tiers, monthly and annual rates, per-seat costs and the usage fees on top. At $36.25 a month it is also the cheapest entry point on this page.
What each tier costs
Starter is $36.25 a month, or $348 a year for a 20% saving, and includes one admin plus one fieldworker. Established is $60 per admin seat per month plus $6 per fieldworker seat, dropping 17% on annual terms. Unlimited Users is a $99 monthly platform fee, or $999 a year.
The line to read twice
On the Unlimited Users tier the platform fee is not the whole bill. You choose between $1 per booked job or 2% of monthly invoiced revenue. On a locksmith business turning over $30,000 a month, that second option is $600 on top of the $99 — and it scales with your success rather than your usage. Pick option A unless your average job value is under $50.
Two more numbers worth knowing: the top tier requires you to supply your own Google Maps API key rather than using the shared one, and a branded mobile app is a one-time $2,500 per platform, so $5,000 for iOS and Android together.
Jobber and Housecall Pro for a locksmith shop
These two score highest on this site — 8.8 and 8.0 — and neither has a locksmith feature to its name. What they have is everything else done well, published pricing, and a mobile app your technician will actually open. For most one-to-three van shops that is the trade worth making.
Jobber, 8.8
Core is $49 a month month-to-month for one user, or $21 a month prepaid annually — that annual rate holds for twelve months and then rises to $29 a month, which is printed on Jobber’s pricing page and easy to miss. Additional users are $29 a month each. A two-van shop on Core is $78 a month month-to-month. Quoting, on-site invoicing and card payment are the strengths, and they matter here: a lockout is a job you want paid before you drive away.
What you do not get is call handling. Jobber will not answer the phone, route the call or record it against the job. If your dispatch problem is the phone rather than the calendar, that gap is the reason to look at Workiz despite the pricing.
Housecall Pro, 8.0
Basic is $79 a month month-to-month or $59 annually for one user. The step up is where locksmiths should look carefully: Essentials is $189 a month month-to-month for five users, and each user beyond that is $100 a month — more than an entire Basic subscription. Max is $329 a month for eight users with extras at $75. If you are growing past five people, price both tiers at your headcount before you commit.
